If you have ever wondered who the man is behind the name Neal Watson, you would probably never guess that the man's personality once had a dive boat named after it - it was called the Humble One.
If there ever was a hall of fame for the diving industry, Neal would be one of the first inductees.
For more than 30 years dive expert Neal Watson has lived and operated dive resorts in the Bahamas. Pioneering the franchising of dive resorts, he began Neal Watson's Undersea Adventures on the tiny island of Bimini and has now expanded to nine successful resorts throughout the hot diving spots of the Bahamas and at several top diving locations in the Caribbean.
Watson's business achievements have only begun to match his personal achievements two of which have never been duplicated. Neal Watson still currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's underwater scuba depth record of 437 feet on compressed air and the underwater distance record by swimming an incredible 66 miles nonstop underwater without surfacing. An elected post, that Watson holds proudly, is president of the Bahamas Diving Association. The association is comprised of nearly 30 dive operations throughout the island nation and represents many of the liveaboard diving charter boats.
While Neal Watson many be the humble one, he is known affectionately among his friends as the "Dive God," the ultimate crowning for the prince of the deep who has worked as a commercial diver, treasure salver and underwater stuntman.
In fact if his knowledge and experience in a variety of diving conditions from wreck diving to reef diving to diving with sharks that have brought Neal Watson further into the fold of film and television production. Neal Watson has appeared in numerous major motion pictures and television shows. He recently taught Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York, to dive with him and Jean Michel Cousteau for an ABC television special for feeding sharks. There has been many U.S. and European magazine articles written about him featuring shark encounters.
But while the world records and television shows add to the mystique of the man, it is his commitment to the dive resort business and the growth of the diving industry that is his biggest challenge. Presently, Neal Watson has dive franchise operations on Bimini, Chub Cay, Nassau, Andros, Walker's Cay and Freeport in the Bahamas and operations on Bonaire, Belize and St. Lucia in the Caribbean.
